RICHMOND — The Washington Redskins signed veteran tackle Corey Robinson on Saturday and are still open to signing Donald Penn.
Washington worked out both players Friday in an attempt to shore up its offensive line with only 12 linemen practicing through the first two days of camp. The Redskins are without left tackles Trent Williams (holdout) and Geron Christian (MCL), so they’re particularly thin at the position.
But Robinson, 27, should help provide depth. Drafted in the seventh round in 2015, the 6-foot-7, 315-pound lineman has played for the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
“We just need another body and we’ll see how he looks,” Gruden said.
Robinson’s deal is reportedly for one year.
Even with Robinson’s signing, the Redskins are still negotiating with Penn. ESPN reported the 36-year-old spent the night in Richmond as the two sides work toward a deal.
The Redskins also placed Williams on the “reserve/not report list” Saturday.
