SEATTLE (AP) - A Seattle public services app has been inundated with hundreds of fake complaints after signs calling for residents to use the app to report homeless camping popped up around the city.
The Seattle Times reported Thursday that posters reading “See a tent? Report a tent,” were anonymously placed in central Seattle last week.
The signs have since been taken down, but they prompted activists to urge social media users to protest by submitting false reports through the city’s Find It, Fix It app.
City officials say the app received 210 service requests last Saturday and 891 requests Sunday. It usually gets about 40 requests each day.
Officials say it took two staff members about six hours to sort through the reports.
