LAS VEGAS (AP) - A North Las Vegas assistant police chief who was arrested last weekend on drunken driving and other charges has resigned.

Clinton Ryan turned in his badge Wednesday, three days after he was stopped by Nevada Highway Patrol troopers while off-duty, driving a pickup truck towing a trailer with a horse inside, Police Chief Pamela Ojeda said in a statement

“We expect the highest standard of conduct from our officers, and particularly from our command staff,” Ojeda said.

The highway patrol on Wednesday released dashboard and body-worn camera video of Ryan getting out of a pickup and trailer that were seen weaving on a Las Vegas-area freeway about 6 p.m. Sunday.

Ryan, 44, tells a trooper he was driving home from Kingman, Arizona; that he’d consumed three or four beers; and refused to take a field sobriety test.

Ryan was a North Las Vegas police officer for 22 years, including stints as a supervisor in internal affairs and special operations.

He faces a September court date on charges of driving under the influence, open container in a vehicle and failing to maintain a travel lane. Records do not indicate if he has an attorney.
