PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The offshore wind executive who oversaw the development of the first U.S. offshore wind farm is stepping down from his position.

The Providence Journal reports Jeffrey Grybowski, of North Kingstown, decided to resign from Orsted U.S. Offshore Wind after nine months as co-CEO.

Grybowski assumed his current position at the Danish-based company when it acquired Deepwater Wind for $510 million in October.

WPRI-TV reports the 48-year-old spent a decade at Deepwater Wind. Grybowski helped guide the Providence-based company as it developed the nation’s first offshore wind farm off the coast of Block Island, Rhode Island. It began operating in late 2016.

Grybowski says he’ll take time off before figuring out his next move. He plans to stay in Rhode Island and use his experience to start a new energy venture.
