RICHMOND — Redskins running back Derrius Guice won’t be limited for the team’s first training camp practice Thursday after spending the last 11 months recovering from a torn ACL.

Coach Jay Gruden said Wednesday the 22-year-old was cleared by Washington’s medical staff.

Guice suffered his season-ending injury last August in a preseason game against the New England Patriots. He has yet to practice since then, and he revealed in December to The Washington Post that his rehab had been delayed due to a post-op infection. In recent months, Guice has posted workout videos of his rehab and has expressed confidence in his ability to regain his form.

Gruden downplayed a report that said Guice suffered a hamstring injury and could miss the start of training camp. He said Guice tweaked his hamstring during a workout after one of Washington’s OTA sessions.

“It was not that big of a deal,” Gruden said. “It was just something that (he needed) a couple weeks and he was going to be fine. But he’s been running and training the last couple of weeks before training camp. Here, today, he’s been working with the trainers and he’s got it back. So he’s in good shape.”

Now healthy, Guice, the 59th overall pick in 2018, is expected to split carries with veteran Adrian Peterson.
