PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo won’t be attending the National Governors Association summer meeting in Utah this week.
Raimondo leads the Democratic Governors Association. Many of the nation’s governors are gathering in Salt Lake City, from Wednesday until Friday.
Raimondo spokesman Josh Block said Monday the governor’s chief of staff, Brett Smiley, will go in her place.
Block says Raimondo has internal policy meetings and appointments with cabinet members scheduled for Wednesday.
He says she’s traveling to New York on Thursday for economic development meetings with the potential to bring business to the state. Block says Raimondo also has meetings in New York for the Democratic Governors Association, and is participating in a round-table discussion with technology executives.
The summer meeting is one of the association’s two annual business meetings.
