Tony Romo won the American Century Championship for the second straight year, shooting a final-round 74 and finishing the three-day modified Stableford event with 71 points.
People know Romo is an excellent golfer; the former Cowboys quarterback-turned-CBS color commentator has played in two PGA Tour events this year on exemption, and he often attempts to qualify for the U.S. Open. But fans may not know that one current Redskins quarterback is also handy on the links.
Case Keenum matched Romo’s 74 Sunday and finished sixth overall with 54 points. Keenum posted the best score of any currently active athlete, finishing only behind the likes of Romo, former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder and former tennis pro Mardy Fish.
Keenum put some of his fellow current quarterbacks to shame, like the Bengals’ Andy Dalton (who carded rounds of 101, 94 and 96). Keenum even finished four points better than Steph Curry (rounds of 77, 77 and 74).
Capitals forward T.J. Oshie also competed and finished in the middle of the pack with rounds of 81, 92 and 86.
The American Century Championship is a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe that draws many current and former professional athletes and coaches. The event has been kind to Redskins quarterbacks: Mark Rypien won the inaugural event in 1990 and again in 2014.
