The Washington Wizards agreed to terms Monday with point guard Isaiah Thomas on a one-year deal — giving the 30-year-old another chance to regain his form.

The Wizards will sign Thomas to the veteran minimum, multiple reports said.

Washington needed another point guard with John Wall out with an Achilles injury and with Tomas Satoransky agreeing to join the Chicago Bulls. The Wizards added veteran Ish Smith on a two-year, $12 million deal earlier Monday, but still were interested in adding another player at the position.

Just three seasons ago, Thomas was one of the league’s best players with the Boston Celtics. Named second-team All-NBA, Thomas was an offensive force, averaging 28.9 points per game.

But Thomas played through a hip injury in the 2017 playoffs and hasn’t been the same player since. He spent last season with the Denver Nuggets, returning from hip surgery in February. The Nuggets briefly used Thomas in the rotation until coach Michael Malone benched Thomas for the rest of the season.

Thomas shot just 34.3% from the field last year — not nearly good enough to overcome his defensive liabilities due to his 5-foot-9 frame.

But Thomas hasn’t given up on becoming an elite player once again.

“I’m going to get back to a level that I was playing at,” Thomas told ESPN last week. “I’m excited to show what I can do again.”
