BOTHELL, Wash. (AP) - Rep. Derek Stanford has been appointed to the state Senate to replace former Sen. Guy Palumbo, who resigned in May.

The Herald of Everett reports that Stanford, who has served in the House since 2011, was appointed Monday to the 1st Legislative District seat during a joint meeting of the Snohomish and King county councils. The district includes most of Mountlake Terrace, all of Brier and Bothell, and north Kirkland. Palumbo, who resigned midway through his first term, left the Senate to take a job with Amazon.

The councils then appointed Bothell City Councilwoman Davina Duerr to Stanford’s old seat in the House.

Stanford and Duerr will serve in their new posts through the November 2020 election.
