TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say the deaths of a couple found fatally shot inside a northern Michigan hotel room that was locked and barricaded from the inside are an apparent killing and suicide.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports police said Monday that the bodies of Tyler Daniel Cole and Kaitlyn Lee Cole of Traverse City were found Sunday at Hotel Indigo. Police Chief Jeff O’Brien says Tyler Cole apparently shot his wife and then himself, and a gun was found with his body.

Officers responded after hotel staff couldn’t get into the room after checkout time. Police earlier said that two other guns were found in the room.

The hotel is located in downtown Traverse City, a popular tourist destination, and a few blocks from the annual National Cherry Festival, which started Saturday.
