Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer was named the National League player of the week Monday, following two outings in which he struck out a combined 24 batters.

Scherzer went 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA across two starts. In both starts, Scherzer went without walking an opposing batter.

This is the fifth time in Scherzer’s career that he’s earned player of the week.

A three-time Cy Young Award winner, Scherzer is having another strong season. After a slow start, Scherzer now has a 2.43 ERA and leads all of baseball in strikeouts with 170.

This past week, batters went just 9-for-56 (.161) against Scherzer.
