This time last year, #TankForTua was all the rage. Now, a different true freshman quarterback has won the national championship and stolen the hearts of many NFL fans.
As Trevor Lawrence led Clemson to a 44-16 evisceration of Alabama in Monday’s national title game, #TankForTrevor started trending on Twitter — with Washington Redskins fans being chief among the group wishing their team could draft Lawrence right away.
He’s not eligible until the 2021 NFL draft. But no matter:
Hey @JPFinlayNBCS — I just figured out the genius of Bruce Allen.. He’s had the #Redskins on a decade long #TankForTrevor and we’re now just 2 years away from it coming to fruition!! The way this kid moves in the pocket & sees the field is sick.. #ALLIN

A two-year “tank” to position your team to draft Lawrence seems a bit much, even for a guy who just threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns on a supposedly stingy Tide defense.
But it isn’t just Washington fans whose longing eyes have wandered from Tua Tagovailoa to Lawrence:
