CLARKSTON, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says an off-duty Clarkston police officer has shot and killed a burglary suspect who shot at him.

News outlets report the GBI says the officer was working as a security guard Monday night and attempted to help a robbery victim when he was shot at by fleeing suspects. It says the men fled in a vehicle as they fired and the officer shot two of them.

It says the fleeing car later stopped and the suspects fled, with two evading police. The other two were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. It says one of the men died, and the other is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured.

The GBI is investigating. Authorities didn’t immediately release the identities of those involved.
