MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A sheriff’s office in Tennessee says a deputy has shot and wounded a burglary suspect.
The Commercial Appeal reports 24-year-old Anthony Williams was released from a hospital Saturday morning in non-critical condition and booked into jail on charges including aggravated assault. Authorities didn’t immediately release the identity or employment status of the involved deputy.
An affidavit says a Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy was patrolling outside a Memphis hotel when he noticed Williams attempting to break into a car. It says the deputy approached and Williams got into another car and drove at the deputy, who then fired several shots.
It says Williams fled to a hospital and was met by another deputy, who brought him to another hospital for treatment. It’s unclear if Williams has a lawyer.
