President Trump said Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told him in a closed-door meeting that Democrats don’t intend to impeach him.

During a White House meeting seeking to resolve their disagreements on the government shutdown and border security, the president said he challenged Mrs. Pelosi, “Why don’t you use this for impeachment?”

“Nancy said, ’We’re not looking to impeach you,’” Mr. Trump told reporters later. “I said, ’That’s good, Nancy, that’s good.’”

Mr. Trump also said freshman Democratic Rep. Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan “dishonored herself” by telling supporters this week that she wants to “impeach that motherf——.”

“I thought her comments were disgraceful,” Mr. Trump said. “I assume she’s new. I think she dishonored herself and she dishonored her family. Using language like that in front of her son. I thought that was a great dishonor to her and her family. I thought it was highly disrespectful to the United States of America.”

He added, “You can’t impeach somebody who’s doing a great job.”
