House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler on Friday challenged newly minted Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s call for impeaching President Trump.
“It’s too early to talk about that intelligently,” he told CNN.
Ms. Tlaib, who was sworn in as a representative for Michigan on Thursday, was seen in a video appearing to tell a cheering crowd that Democrats “are gonna impeach the motherf—.”

Mr. Nadler criticized her language but stressed that there a need for more investigations before Democrats can seriously consider impeachment.
“We have to get the facts. We will see where the facts lead,” he said. “Maybe that leads to impeachment. Maybe it won’t.”
The congressman also argued that those pushing for impeachment must be confident that their case will convince at least part of Mr. Trump’s supporters.
“It’s not an assault on the president. It’s a defense of the American republic, of the separation powers, of liberty, et cetera,” Mr. Nadler said. “Whether that is necessary can only be determined if you have all the facts, and we don’t have them yet.”
