WESTON, Fla. (AP) - A Cleveland Clinic worker in South Florida was hit by a car and killed in front of the hospital where she works.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office investigators say 52-year-old Margarita Almonte was walking through a crosswalk to her car in a hospital parking lot after her shift on Wednesday when she was hit by the car.
Investigators say her body was carried a short distance and then hit the pavement, and the car ran over her.
Almonte’s co-workers in the hospital carried her to the emergency room at the Cleveland Clinic where she was pronounced dead.
The sheriff’s office says in a statement that a preliminary investigation shows neither excessive speed nor driver impairment or mechanical failure played a role in the crash.
