LAS VEGAS (AP) - Officials say Nevada Gov.-elect Steve Sisolak’s wife is resigning from the state Public Employees’ Retirement Board, averting a potential conflict of interest.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports a spokeswoman for Sisolak’s office confirmed Wednesday that his wife, Kathy Sisolak, will resign before he is sworn in next week as Nevada’s 30th governor.

The seven-member board oversees the independent public agency that administers benefits for public sector workers in the state. Kathy Sisolak currently serves as its chair.

Nevada’s soon-to-be new first lady was appointed to the PERS board by outgoing Gov. Brian Sandoval in 2011.

Kathy Sisolak - the former Kathy Ong - married Steve Sisolak on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas.

Steve Sisolak is set to be sworn in as governor on Monday.
