OCALA, Fla. (AP) - A former Florida health department official claims that because of the election there was a delay in notifying residents of a central Florida community that their well water was polluted.
Les Beitsch, a former deputy secretary in the Florida Department of Health, tells the Miami Herald and Tampa Bay Times he was fired last November because he pushed back against any delay in notifying well-water users.
Gov. Rick Scott’s office this week dismissed any suggestion that political considerations played a role in notifying residents living near the Florida State Fire College in Ocala, Florida.
The state Department of Health says it notified residents right away.
According to emails obtained by the newspapers, water at the fire college had three times the level of chemicals advisable for drinking water.
