OPINION:
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, also known in the civilian sector as Dr. Northam, has been facing some backlash for comments he made in defense of the third-trimester murder, err, abortion proposal brought to the House of Delegates by Democrats — you know, the bill giving women the right to practically deliver their babies and then say, oops, I’ve changed my mind: Abort.
The takeaway from Northam’s comments? Only this: Here’s a doc you wouldn’t want anywhere near your kids.
He’s a pediatric neurologist — a doctor who treats children who are suffering from problems with their nervous systems. And he had this to say, when asked about the viral video of Fairfax County Del. Kathy Tran telling fellow House members that yes, her bill does indeed allow for women to abort at any point in their pregnancies, for any physical or mental health reasons — even if the baby were practically moving down the birth channel.
“[Tran’s comments were] blown out of proportion,” Northam said, on WTOP radio.
Just to recap: Tran herself was asked during a subcommittee hearing on her Repeal Act if a 40-week pregnant woman would be allowed to abort, and said “yes.”
What exactly is out-of-context about that?
“These are done obviously with the consent of the mother, with consent of the physician, multiple physicians by the way,” Northam said during the “Ask the Governor” radio segment, “and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, or there may be a fetus that’s not viable.”
Did the good doctor Northam just endorse infanticide?
It gets worse.
“[I]f a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” Northam went on. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
Translation: The mother and doctors would discuss whether or not that birthed baby would be allowed to live.
This is worse than inhumane. This is grotesque and gruesome. It’s murder of the innocents. That it’s being masked and wrapped in a physician’s bow and presented as some sort of medical necessity only adds to the horror.
Northam may be expert at treating conditions of the nervous system. But really, to all the pregnant women of the state, beware: He doesn’t treat disorders of the nervous system so much as cause them.
With abortion views like his, Northam shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the kids.
