Hillary Clinton is not planning to run for president in 2020, her campaign chairman John Podesta said recently.

Mr. Podesta dismissed the media speculation that swirled over the past week about whether the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic nominee would attempt a third bid at the presidency.

Earlier in the week, CNN’s Jeff Zeleny reported that Mrs. Clinton hadn’t ruled out running in 2020, in light of the indictments coming out of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling.

“She says she’s not running for president,” he said on CNN Tuesday night. “I think this is media catnip.”

He added that Mrs. Clinton is in Puerto Rico “trying to help the people that Donald Trump has abandoned, through the Clinton Foundation.”

Mr. Podesta took a few other shots at President Trump, bringing up the fact that Mrs. Clinton won the popular vote during the 2016 election.

He said that the Democratic Party already has a decent showing of candidates for the primary.

“I think the Democratic primary will be a spirited one with a lot of great ideas coming forward,” Mr. Podesta said. “I think she would’ve been a great president, but that’s in the past.”
