It is a helpful victory at a critical time. An anti-abortion film partially financed by My Pillow founder Mike Lindell will be distributed nationwide in March.
“Unplanned,” a feature film with a critical take on Planned Parenthood, has found a distribution partner in Pure Flix, which is set to release the movie nationwide to 800 screens on March 29, wrote Paul Bond, who covers the film industry for The Hollywood Reporter.
Pure Flix is described as a “Christian movie studio that produces, distributes, and acquires Christ centered movies,” according to a mission statement at its website. “Our vision is to influence the global culture for Christ through media.”
The distributor also released a three-minute trailer Thursday featuring Ashley Bratcher — the actress who plays lead character Abby Johnson — who renounces abortion and Planned Parenthood, where she once worked as a clinic director.
In the trailer, Ms. Bratcher “is warned not to defy Planned Parenthood, one of the most powerful organizations on the planet,” said Mr. Bond.
“Unplanned” was written and directed by Cary Soloman and Chuck Konzelman, the writers and co-producers of “God’s Not Dead” and “God’s Not Dead 2,” also distributed by Pure Flix.
Mike Lindell, a born-again Christian and an unapologetic fan of President Trump, invested $1 million in “Unplanned” and that he intends to help finance other films that “support his values,” Mr. Bond said.
“The filmmakers say they made ’Unplanned’ in secret under an assumed name due to its controversial nature and that its plans to feature portions of several mainstream pop songs were scaled back after major labels refused to license music to them,” the analyst said.
