President Trump said the American public is overwhelmingly supporting his demand for border wall funding.
“I have never had so much support as I have had in the last week over my stance for border security,” Mr. Trump said during an impromptu appearance in the White House press room on the 13th day of the government shutdown.
“I have never had anything like it in terms of calls coming in, in terms of people writing in and tweeting. I’ve never had this much support,” he said.
Mr. Trump also introduced a series of officials from various federal agencies that work on border protection.
The president congratulated new Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi as the House prepared to pass a bill to reopen the government without providing funding for a border wall.
