LAS VEGAS (AP) - The sheriff in charge of the local investigation of the October 2017 Las Vegas Strip shooting that killed 58 people and injured hundreds is being sworn in to a second four-year term as the elected head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo planned a Friday morning swearing-in ceremony at police headquarters.
Lombardo was re-elected over four other candidates in a June 2018 nonpartisan primary, drawing more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a November runoff.
Clark County has 2.2 million residents and draws more than 40 million tourists a year.
The police department has more than 2,600 sworn officers and a $601 million budget.
It covers Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County except Boulder City, Henderson, Mesquite and North Las Vegas.
