PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The U.S. Senate has approved President Donald Trump’s nomination for the top federal prosecutor for Rhode Island.
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed’s office confirmed Wednesday that Aaron Weisman had been approved as U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island. Weisman will replace acting U.S. Attorney Richard Myrus.
Myrus assumed the role after U.S. attorney Stephen Dambruch stepped down to take a position as chief of the criminal division in the in the state attorney general’s office.
Weisman had served as the state’s assistant attorney general and the chief of the state attorney general’s criminal appeals unit. He had worked in the attorney general’s office since 1993.
Reed said in a statement that he is confident Weisman “will provide strong, steady leadership” in the role.
