ATLANTA (AP) - Police say a Georgia security guard has been charged in the shooting of a suspect in a liquor store theft.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the guard was arrested on charges including aggravated assault.
Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty says a man stole alcohol from Tower Beer, Wine and Spirits on Wednesday night. Daugherty says the guard confronted him and “a physical altercation ensued.” The man got away with alcohol, and the guard allegedly went after him and shot him in the elbow.
Police say the guard caught up with the man and demanded the stolen alcohol back. Daugherty says the man complied but the guard allegedly fired more shots in the ground. The man fled and was eventually taken to a hospital. Officials haven’t said if he’ll be charged.
Neither man has been identified.
