COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Federal investigators believe a man charged with filming patrons in a Columbia Public Library restroom has fled to Iceland.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports an affidavit filed Thursday by federal agents show 42-year-old Jay Paul Robinson is charged with fleeing to avoid prosecution. The records show federal agents believe he traveled to Iceland to avoid prosecution for multiple sex crime charges.
Robinson was arrested in August after library staff discovered a hidden camera in a unisex restroom. A city press release said the camera showed patrons using the restroom and Robinson concealing it.
Investigators say additional evidence showed Robinson committing additional sex crimes, including rape, 11 counts of sodomy and nine additional invasion of privacy charges.
Investigators found Robinson on Aug. 5 booked a flight from Chicago to Reykjavik, Iceland.
