President Trump may face an uphill battle in swaying voters to his side during the 2020 elections, according to data from two recent polls.
According to data from a new ABC News/Washington Post poll released Tuesday, a majority — 56 percent — of Americans said they wouldn’t vote for Mr. Trump in 2020.
Mr. Trump’s base is still mostly intact, with 71 percent of Republicans backing his re-election, although 27 percent of that same base wanted to change direction.
When considering “Republican leaning” independents, Mr. Trump’s support fell to 65 percent and the number of Americans who wanted a new candidate increased to 32 percent.
Similarly, a survey from PBS NewsHour, NPR and Marist released on Jan. 17 found that 57 percent of American voters said they definitely would not vote for Mr. Trump.
The ABC/Washington Post poll was conducted Jan. 21-24 by calling 1,001 adults and 893 voters. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
