The White House wouldn’t say Monday whether President Trump would pardon Roger Stone, his longtime friend and loyalist indicted in the Russia investigation.
“I’m not aware of that,” said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said when asked whether Mr. Trump has ruled out a pardon. “I’m not going to get into that at this point.”
She said it was a “ridiculous” hypothetical.
Mr. Stone was indicted last week for obstruction of justice, lying to Congress and intimidating a witness in connection with his contacts to Wikileaks through intermediaries during the 2016 presidential campaign. Wikileaks published stolen Democratic emails during the race.
Mr. Stone was a campaign adviser to Mr. Trump for a brief period in 2015 and has stayed in touch with him. He is due in federal court again Tuesday.
