INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The National Weather Service has posted wind chill warnings for the northern two-thirds of Indiana, saying wind chills associated with “historic cold weather” could drop as low as 30 to 40 below zero from Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon.
The weather service says the wind chills in northern Indiana could reach 50 below zero with patchy blowing and drifting snow possible.
The University of Notre Dame in South Bend sent an email to students and staff saying it will be closed from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Thursday because of the cold weather.
Heavy snow and high winds hit northern Indiana on Monday. The National Weather Service predicted up to 7 inches could accumulate in some areas with winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
