DENVER (AP) - Heavier than expected snow made it difficult to get around the Denver on Monday.
While just an inch or two of snow had been expected around Denver, heavy bands of snow brought several inches to many areas, most of it during the morning commute. Many accidents and spinouts were reported and drivers also got stuck trying to go up hills.
Denver-area buses and trains ran behind schedule. An accordion-style long bus slid into a light pole near the state Capitol.
Up to around a foot (30 centimeters) of snow were reported in some areas north of Denver but other locations not far away stayed dry.
In the mountains, a car fire temporarily shut down the Denver-bound side of the Eisenhower Tunnel and the backup highway, Loveland Pass, was closed because of snow.
