BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The president of the University of Vermont Medical Center is planning to retire in June.
The medical center announced Friday that Eileen Whalen will retire in June after four years of leading the Burlington-based hospital and 35 years of working in health care.
Dr. Stephen Leffler will then serve as interim president until a permanent replacement for Whalen can be found.
The medical center says Whalen has been a champion for health through community investments in food security, housing and transportation.
She is also a nationally recognized leader in trauma systems. She implemented a regional critical care transport system to ensure patients across the region can transfer between health care facilities to receive needed care.
