CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire man has been ordered to repay over $5,000 in unemployment benefits and penalties after he pleaded guilty to a fraud charge.
The attorney general’s office says Patrick Buchanan, of Tilton, filed for 13 weeks of unemployment compensation benefits while knowingly failing to report his employment in order to obtain or increase his benefits.
He was sentenced in Hillsborough County Superior Court in Nashua to 12 months in jail. All but 10 days of his sentence was deferred for six months and then suspended for two years, conditioned on good behavior.
The Department of Employment Security provides unemployment compensation benefits to eligible claimants who are unemployed through no fault of their own. The Department investigates and prosecutes both criminal and civil unemployment compensation fraud.
