VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - Vancouver Public Schools and its support staff union have announced a tentative agreement, allowing the schools to open.
The Columbian reports that the deal was made public about 12:30 a.m. Friday. Authorities said that means the 500-member Vancouver Association of Educational Support Professionals will not walk out and details of the agreement will be released following the ratification of the contract.
Union members had threatened to strike, saying they wanted more competitive compensation.
School Superintendent Steve Webb said in a statement that he was “grateful to the bargaining teams for continuing to work together to finalize this agreement and keep our students in school.”
