WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) - A Virginia teen with autism is sharing his lifetime supply of Lidl peanut butter with federal workers who are furloughed like his father.
The Washington Post reports that 15-year-old Eric McKay and his family gave away several peanut butter jars Wednesday and are planning another giveaway Saturday.
Food sensitivity isn’t uncommon for people with autism, and Eric’s preferences include peanut butter and English muffins. His mother, Tracy McKay, says he goes through one jar every three days.
Lidl bestowed a lifetime supply of their store-branded peanut butter on the teen when he met the company’s challenge to get 72,000 retweets.
Eric’s father is the family’s main breadwinner. Tracy McKay says her son decided to share his supply because “we don’t have any income, but we do have peanut butter.”
