The Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday subpoenaed Michael Cohen to testify sometime in Mid-February.
The subpoena, reported by CNN, comes one day after Cohen postponed his scheduled Feb. 7 appearance before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee citing “threats” by President Trump and his attorney Rudy Giuliani.
Cohen’s attorney Lanny Davis said comments by Mr. Trump and Mr. Giuliani stoked “genuine fear.”
Last week, Mr. Giuliani suggested Cohen’s father-in-law had ties to organized crime. That followed a tweet by the president cryptically saying “Watch Father in Law” while blasting Cohen.
The subpoena report came hours after Mr. Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis demanded Congress launch a criminal investigation into Mr. Trump and Mr. Giuliani saying the comments amounted to witness tampering.
“A resolution of censure when the president of the United States indisputably intimidates and obstructs Justice to prevent a witness from testifying is in order,” Mr. Davis told ABC’s Good Morning America. “So is a federal criminal investigation of Rudy Giuliani for witness tampering.”
