FULTON, N.Y. (AP) - A Georgia-based renewable fuels company is buying a corn ethanol refinery in upstate New York with plans to develop facilities to convert wood waste to energy, plastics and other products.
Attis Industries, based in Milton, Georgia, says it will buy and operate an ethanol refinery and grain malting operation owned by Sunoco in Fulton, 23 miles northwest of Syracuse.
Sunoco bought the former Miller brewery in 2009 and converted it into the state’s largest corn ethanol refinery. Attis says it’s paying Sunoco $20 million for the facility and plans to invest up to $100 million to transform it into a major renewable energy campus.
Attis also plans to continue operation of Sunoco’s malt house, which serves New York’s craft brewery industry.
