DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old girl has died and a 23-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition after they were struck by vehicles while walking on a main street at night in southwest Ohio.

The Montgomery County sheriff’s office reports the two were hit by separate vehicles in Harrison Township just northwest of Dayton. Investigators say they were walking down the middle of the street just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say both the vehicles that initially struck the pedestrians left the scene. They say both should show substantial damage in their fronts, and one lost the driver-side mirror.

Investigation is continuing.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the teen was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was transported with life-threatening injuries. Their identities weren’t released immediately.
