President Trump has asked congressional officials for a walk-through of a State of the Union address, in a sign that he might work around House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s attempt to reschedule it.

The White House sent a letter to the sergeant-at-arms of Congress, seeking to schedule a walk-through of the annual speech, Fox News reported.

Mrs. Pelosi has asked the president to delay the speech that is scheduled for Jan. 29, citing security concerns during the partial government shutdown. Some Senate Republicans have suggested that Mr. Trump give the speech instead in the Senate chamber, which is controlled by the GOP.

Mr. Trump called Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives Tim Moore Monday night after Mr. Moore invited the president to deliver his State of the Union address in North Carolina.

“President Trump said he was appreciative of the invitation and supported what we are doing here in North Carolina for our economy,” Mr. Moore said in a statement. He said the president thanked him for the invitation, adding that Mr. Trump’s team was still determining when the speech will take place.

Republican legislators in Michigan also have invited Mr. Trump to deliver the speech there.

The Republican National Convention will be hosted in Charlotte, North Carolina, in August 2020.
