KINGSLEY, Mich. (AP) - A middle school principal in Northern Michigan has been arrested on sex assault and other charges following allegations involving young boys.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that 54-year-old Karl Hartman is charged Tuesday with criminal sexual conduct, accosting a minor and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Hartman has submitted his retirement letter as principal at Kingsley Middle School, south of Traverse City.

One boy told investigators Hartman groped him when he spent the night at the principal’s home. Another boy said Hartman rubbed his buttocks and stomach in the principal’s office. A third boy said Hartman gave him and another boy alcohol and told them to show him their genitals.

The newspaper report does not say when the alleged abuse occurred.

No attorney is listed for Hartman in court records.
