MONTREAL (AP) - Montreal Impact owner Joey Saputo is turning over the job of president of the MLS club to Kevin Gilmore.
Gilmore has worked as an executive with the Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings and the Walt Disney Company.
Most recently, the Quebecer was a consultant in the sports, media and entertainment industries across North America. He also was on the administrative council of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League and the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Saputo had been team president since founding the Impact in 1993. The team jumped to MLS in 2012.
Saputo said in a statement Tuesday the Impact must increase their “level of professionalism and efficiency, and above all, be ready for the major transformations that are rapidly sweeping our sport.”
The Impact began training camp Tuesday in Florida.
