JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The director of the Mississippi Department of Employment Security is being nominated for the state Workers Compensation Commission.

Mark Henry of Brandon was chosen for the three-person commission Wednesday by Republican Gov. Phil Bryant. If confirmed by the state Senate, Henry would succeed commissioner Thomas Webb, whose six-year term expired Monday.

Bryant spokesman Knox Graham says Henry will remain at Employment Security while awaiting Senate consideration.

Henry was lead attorney and then chief of staff for Republican Gov. Kirk Fordice in the 1990s. Fordice named him an administrative judge for the Workers Compensation Commission in 2000, and Henry remained there until 2008.

From 2008 to 2012, he was chief of staff for Bryant, who was lieutenant governor.

When Bryant became governor in 2012, he named Henry to lead Employment Security.
