PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy critically wounded a man during a shootout following an attempted robbery of a dollar store in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh police say city officers and Allegheny county sheriffs rushed to the East Hills Family Dollar after a report of an armed man in the store shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Cmdr. Mike Pilyih said law enforcement responders were immediately fired upon and returned fire, hitting the man. A Pittsburgh public safety spokesman said he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. One deputy had a thumb injury and an officer had a cut on his hand while rendering first aid to the suspect.
Authorities say the alleged robbery attempt may be connected to the robbery of a Family Dollar in Penn Hills earlier in the evening.
