President Trump’s personal attorney denied a published report Friday that accused Mr. Trump of directing former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress.
“Any suggestion — from any source — that the president counseled Michael Cohen to lie is categorically false,” said attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani.
BuzzFeed, citing two unnamed law enforcement sources, reported that Mr. Trump had instructed Cohen to lie about plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. Congressional Democrats are vowing to investigate the claim.
The president said on Twitter that the lawyer was lying about the Moscow project to “reduce his jail time.”
The story claims that Mr. Trump received several updates from Cohen about a plan to build the Moscow tower at a time when Mr. Trump denied having any business ties to Russia well into the 2016 campaign. Cohen told Congress earlier that his discussions with Moscow officials ended in January 2016.
