Sen. Richard Blumenthal said Friday that he will meet with Attorney General nominee William Barr and demand an “ironclad commitment” that he release the entirety of special counsel Robert Mueller’s eventual findings.
“I will be taking Mr. Barr up on his offer to meet & demanding an ironclad commitment to release the Mueller report itself, not some watered down summary that he redacts & writes. The American people deserve to know the truth,” the Connecticut Democrat wrote on Twitter.
Mr. Mueller’s team is investigating claims of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election and allegations of obstruction of justice.
During his Senate testimony last week, Mr. Barr hedged on just how much of Mr. Mueller’s eventual findings he would release to the public. He told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he wanted to be as transparent as possible, but also wavered on committing to releasing a full report. Mr. Barr also suggested he may write up his own report based on Mr. Mueller’s conclusions.
Senate Democrats have pounced on Mr. Barr’s comments, with some saying it is a reason they will not support his nomination.
