SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Springfield Medical Care Systems’ Board of Directors has appointed three interim leaders amid a period of financial difficulties.

The Vermont health care system has appointed Michael Halstead as interim chief executive officer for Springfield Hospital; Joshua Dufresne as acting chief executive officer and Wayne Scholz as interim chief financial officer.

The Valley News reports the Thursday hires come as SMCS faces difficulties in paying bills and maintaining employee morale.

Republican Gov. Phil Scott has asked the board to provide the state with its plan for improvement. The board has informed Scott of Scholz’s appointment and says it is seeking new ways to find about $8 million to $10 million in savings.
