NORCROSS, Ga. (AP) - Officials say a student has been found with a loaded gun at a high school in Georgia.
Citing Gwinnett County jail records, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports a 17-year-old Meadowcreek High School student was arrested on charges of carrying a weapon in a school safety zone and possession of a pistol by a person under 18 years old.
Officials said in a letter to parents that the student was found with the weapon at the school Monday. Principal Tommy T. Welch says a school resource officer first saw the student with an e-cigarette in his possession. They then searched the student and found the handgun.
It’s unclear if the teenager has a lawyer who could comment.
