PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former Providence city councilor who pleaded no contest to misusing campaign funds and embezzling from a youth sports organization has started his prison term.
Kevin Jackson was charged with embezzling more than $100,000 from a youth track program he founded. The Providence Journal reports he reported to the state prison Monday to serve an 18-month sentence.
He pleaded no contest to multiple charges in October and was sentenced in December. He will serve time in minimum security with work release, meaning he will be able to leave prison to work during the day.
Jackson’s attorney declined to share information about Jackson’s job. A spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office says she did not have details on his employment.
