President Trump predicted Sunday that many Hispanic voters will join the Republican Party because Democrats won’t make a deal on DACA in exchange for funding of his border wall.

Republicans on Capitol Hill were pushing for a deal to get funding for the wall in exchange for granting protected status to children brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents.

Mr. Trump’s administration has tried to roll back his predecessor’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which helped shield deportations of certain immigrants here illegally.

“Democrats are saying that DACA is not worth it and don’t want to include in talks. Many Hispanics will be coming over to the Republican side, watch!” Mr. Trump tweeted Sunday.

“The building of the Wall on the Southern Border will bring down the crime rate throughout the entire Country!” he added.

Mr. Trump and Democratic leaders have refused to cut a deal on wall funding, prompting the country’s longest partial shutdown of the federal government.

“I’m in the White House, waiting. The Democrats are everywhere but Washington as people await their pay. They are having fun and not even talking!” Mr. Trump tweeted.
