MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi city’s former clerk and its current fire department chief are among a dozen past and present employees who have filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The Mississippi Press reported Thursday that it obtained documents showing 12 current and former Moss Point employees filed the complaints against the city. The former workers accuse Mayor Mario King of age discrimination.
The complaints say King ran for office partly on a belief that older people were holding Moss Point back from progress. They say King started harassing everyone who wasn’t a millennial or younger when he assumed office. They say he also eliminated positions and lowered non-millennials’ salaries.
King says decisions over hiring, pay or ways someone can be discriminated against falls on the board of aldermen, not him.
